We love helping our clients put together amazing events. The best events will leave a lasting impression on those in attendance and can be a great way to secure coverage in the press! From time capsule burials to state unveilings, during 2021 we were certainly busy planning, organising and attending events. Keep reading to get a glimpse of some of the things that we were up to.
Shanly’s Sculpture Unveilings
At Shanly Homes’ Waterside Quarter, an incredible public arts trail is being created. In 2021, two of the sculptures were unveiled at events that we helped organise. The first in May, was a Toucan, inspired by Diana Dors’ Le Tucan café, which occupied the site back in 1955. In attendance at the event were competition winners from a local school who had written stories explaining how the Toucan had landed in Maidenhead. At this unveiling we were lucky enough to secure support from the actress’ granddaughter, Ruby Lake, and Maidenhead’s MP and former Prime Minister, Theresa May.
Making a Moment Last Forever
2021 has been an interesting year, and one that I’m sure a lot of us will remember. But what about future generations? Time capsules are a great way to capture small moments in history so that people in the future can learn about how we spent our time. In December, Berkeley Homes worked with pupils from Bartons Primary School in North Bersted, West Sussex, to create and bury their own time capsule in the Italian Gardens at Berkeley’s Bersted Park. The artefacts and stories buried by the 12 children will remain there until 2046 when the time capsule and its treasures will be opened once again.
Firefighters
To mark the 20-year anniversary of 9/11, members of Fordbridge Fire Station completed their own version of the ‘Tunnels to Towers’ fundraising event. Having already walked more than five miles, the firefighters climbed up 110 floors at Latimer’s Ascot House in Staines Upon Thames, all whilst wearing full kit and breathing equipment! With Latimer hosting the event, members of the Oracle team were in attendance to cheer on the 25 participating firefighters and to help ensure that as much money as possible was being raised for The Firefighter Charity and Tunnels to Towers. The event was a wonderful way to remember the 2,976 innocent lives lost.
SoloHaus Events
We were thrilled when Hill asked us to assist them in raising awareness of SoloHaus, an innovative solution to tackle homelessness by providing single, purpose-built modular homes. During 2021, we attended two SoloHaus events. The first, at Westminster Abbey, saw a SoloHaus prototype craned into the Abbey’s grounds to mark the launch of the SHC Partnership between the Salvation Army, Hill and Citizens UK. We also attended an event at Ermine Road in Tottenham, where 33 SoloHaus homes have been installed in a combined effort by the Hill Group and Haringey Council.
Plastic Poppy Planting
To mark Remembrance Day, Hill asked us to help organise an event at their popular Oxford development, Mosaics. We worked with 45 pupils from Barton Park Primary School to create over 100 poppies made from recycled plastic bottles. In the afternoon, a few of the pupils, were able to attend a poppy planting ceremony at the development alongside the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Mark Lygo, Royal British Legion’s Oxfordshire County Chair, Peter Eldridge also joined by Ann Cox of the Headington Poppy Appeal and Regional Director for The Hill Group, Ryan Harris.
Christmas Carols
Also at Waterside Quarter, we helped Shanly Homes organise a Christmas Carolling event. On 9th December, 60 pupils from Courthouse Junior School performed beautifully at the development, with former X-Factor contestant Danyl Johnson joining them for a performance of Silent Night. A stunning 20ft Christmas tree added to the Christmas magic, and mince pies and hot chocolate from Bakedd artisan bakery & café helped keep the guests warm.
Emily Davison Statue
Whilst we do specialise in Property PR, it is great to branch out and do other things, particularly when there is a local cause. All the way back in 2019, discussions began with Epsom Bid who were looking for help to raise awareness of the unveiling of a statue of the suffragette Emily Davison in Epsom town centre. In 2021, we were able to help Epsom Bid run this event and secure some great coverage. It was an honour working with such an amazing group of people to ensure that the event ran smoothly, and having a gorgeous sunny day was just the icing on the cake.
