Journalist Melissa York was recently seeking case studies featuring buyers who had chosen to live at home and save themselves for their first property, rather than relying on the Bank of Mum and Dad to fund their journey onto the property ladder. Gail and Sam, who recently purchased their first home at Pennyfarthing Homes’ Hawthorn Place development in Fordingbridge, were a perfect fit.

Having been together for 13 years before finally achieving homeownership, Gail and Sam had a compelling story that quickly captured the journalist’s interest. Their warmth and personality came across brilliantly in the article, which was such a strong piece that it was even referenced on the newspaper’s front page.

This represented an excellent result for Pennyfarthing Homes, securing positive national coverage that showcased both the development and the brand to a wider audience.

Manchester Evening News

Campaign

We secured prominent coverage in the Manchester Evening News by pitching an exclusive human-interest case study that highlighted the realities of the rental market through the experiences of a young couple, Laura and Lewis. After moving into what they believed would be their first home together, they discovered the flat was infested with bed bugs and affected by a series of serious maintenance issues, forcing them to leave the property after just a short period. They then found they could buy their first home with Latimer for just an extra £70 a month. Recognising the wider relevance of the story amid ongoing conversations around housing standards and renters’ rights, we developed the case study into a compelling media narrative, and pitched it exclusively to the Manchester Evening News.

We identified Rhiannon as a standout case study early on, recognising that her career gave the story a genuinely different angle from the usual “first-time buyer” narrative. As a West End theatre worker, her irregular late-night finishes made the case for a safe and secure home especially compelling, and it set her apart from the more predictable case studies that usually land in the property pages. We pitched this angle directly to The Times Moving Stories column.
